Michael and Sophia's Home
(Post No. 6) We saw the house this morning, a stately, Greek revival brick beauty. It was magical to walk around the same house our great-great-family did 145 years ago. The young couple, Elissa and Cody, with 3-year-old Chloe, bought it last February and have done an amazing job so far in fixing it up. They welcomed us with open arms to see it. We're very happy to know this family loves the house so much they are working hard to make it a wonderful home for themselves and their children. (Baby No. 2 is due in December).
They removed all the carpeting to reveal original hardwood floors; painted rooms in attractive colors; big, thick moulding/trim around ceilings, doors, and windows, are a nice, clean white. They have a ways to go but have made a great start. The house is huge with lots of rooms! They were equally happy to share it with us and they appreciate our interest and connection to the home's past.
Afterwards we drove to the town of Bryan, Ohio — a quick 30-minute trip through picturesque fields and farms. We had lunch at a cute coffee/bistro with great coffee and excellent paninis. The rainy day didn't slow us down one bit, either.
Well, this is a family tree blog and I'll be going back to featuring our relatives, ancestors, and cousins after this, as we fly home tomorrow. I'll continue with someone from Defiance next, probably Bernard Gorman, Popee's grandfather, as he's a rather interesting fellow and I have a pretty good photo of him.

Thank you Johnny! We had a great time indeed.

I'm sure people in Defiance will be talking about the Gorman Girls for a while.
Safe travels.

Maybe! It's kind of sad that there's really no apparent trace of the family
here now besides the house.
I'll post a blog on it sometime. Looking forward to our real homes tomorrow
