We're First Families Now

awards

(Post No. 5) We made it to Defiance Monday morning after a few airline-related delays but all's well that ends well. After getting settled in our beautiful historic-home B&B, a nice lady named Mary and her husband Herb took us on a two-hour tour of the town and surrounding countryside. Mary is in charge of the "First Families" of Defiance and because of her, all our paperwork and documents proved our ancestry here. Then she goes above and beyond by giving us the grand tour.

After our dinner together, we went to the meeting where a gentleman gave a presentation portraying General Anthony Wayne in 19th-Century military garb; he built Fort Defiance here and Fort Wayne in Indiana among many others. Quite a historical character!

Then it was time to award us our pins and certificates. I think most of the 25-or-so members were pretty happy that we showed up all the way from California for it. Susie and I enjoyed every minute as you can see from the picture. The certificates are extremely nice and they’re getting framed ASAP. The people of Defiance are warm, friendly, and helpful. The fall colors are in full swing, too, with sunny weather today and tomorrow. We're glad we came!
